01The challenge
A daily newsroom outgrowing a browser tab
The coverage already existed, on a website and in print. What it lacked was a fast way to reach a phone on patchy mobile data.
Web reloads are too slow
Breaking news on politics, business and cricket needed a faster channel than a page refresh.
The print edition had no home
The daily paper existed on paper or as a generic web page, never as a readable edition.
One national feed
A Rajkot or Saurashtra Kutch reader could not easily find the stories closest to home.
Everything in a different place
Live cricket scores, weather and the day's headlines each lived on their own screen.
One fixed theme
A single light mode does not suit a reader checking the news at night.
02What we built
One Flutter app, light enough for everyday mobile data
Built on the same news desk that runs azadsandesh.com, so a published story reaches the app without a second workflow.

A breaking news band and a category rail spanning politics, business, cricket, sport, food and more.
Search, weather, cricket
Full text search over the archive, current weather for the reader's city, and live scorecards beside the headlines.
E-paper and reading modes
The printed edition presented page by page as published, with dark, light and system theming.
Dark, light and system theming were treated as a reading feature, not a settings afterthought, because a regional daily is read at every hour.

A reader opens on breaking news, moves sideways into the section they always read, and finds the printed edition and the day's scores without leaving the app.
